Dear George R.R. Martin,
I know that you are an accomplished writer with many, many successful books on your plate. I know that you have been heavily involved in the making of the show, Game of Thrones, but I urge you, please, for all grieving the end of Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice & Fire, please,
finish the books you can’t write.
When you first began on your quest to write this world into existence, I am sure that you can look back on finished books and say to yourself, “But How did I ever do that?”
How did you write such intricate histories of the land of Westeros and the making of the world where Dragons and Dire Wolves Exist? How did you find the time to sit down and map out every single little detail of their history and their present story?
Two answers come to my mind, You felt the calling to do it or You didn’t care enough about anything else to be distracted.
Both great places for an artist’s mind to be. Both places I wish you were in right now as we, your audience, try to figure out what to do with our time now between the hours of 9-12am on Sunday evenings.
My husband and I, determined to get our child to go to bed at 7:30 on Sundays, so that we could get enough time in to pop our popcorn, walk our dogs, and be sure to sit down on the couch in time for another Episode of Game of Thrones.
So many hours dedicated to involving ourselves with the characters emotionally and seeing their lives unfold as if we are their friends riding dragons along side of them.
I am happy that the Dragons and Wolves did not go extinct, although, left with a faint yearning to know what the animals will do now. Please, I must know.
For what it’s worth, George, I am also a writer and understand the complexities of a project unfolding. I understand that it is complicated and the evolution of your soul nearly feels like it depends on the completion of this book.
I also have experienced the resistance while attempting to write.
For someone, so famous, so accomplished, I empathize with the venture you are on and I understand the pressure that you are feeling from Resistance as well as the Public. You have created a dream for us with these books and even more so with the show.
But I urge you, although, you might be scared to death of jinxing another book, please, write the damn book.
Tell it you can’t write it, but you are dumb enough to do it anyway. Tell Resistance you will send Drogon to melt it down to it’s very core.
Do not let the voice of Desire, Resistance, and Fear stand in your way. We all know you can make it to Westeros and back, please, take us there, again.
Yours Truly and Forever a Dragon Fan,
