In the business world, creativity is a top in demand skill for people to master. When many people think of creativity, they think of artists, graphic designers, writers, painters, etc. But that is not what it means to be creative.
Creativity does not always mean artistry.
As an artist, who works full time in the business world, I see creativity all the time. What it means to be creative is the ability to use your thoughts as a medium and transform them to solve problems that are relevant to whatever project it is you are working on.
In the HR field, across my desk comes different projects like how to engage employees or get our retention rate down. People come to HR to discuss their personal and medical problems and they count on us to find solutions. Business partners come to us to better understand their market or streamline different processes to save money or get better KPI’s (which is just a fancy business way of saying, metrics to show that we are a successful business)
From mathematicians to cyber security analysts, in your field, you will notice that tons of problems come across your desk. The job market today is always looking for ways to systemize and streamline processes that allow them to continue to be effective and at the top of the industry standard. The ability to solve problems and be mindful of yourself and your perception is what it means to be creative.
That is why, if we take a deeper look at our strengths, you will see that creativity is innate. You are problem solving and bringing original ideas to your workplace, your home, or even maybe your artistry. And when you do, you are valued.
And that is why Artist’s are always valued as an asset to our modern world because they are innovating from nothing. They use their thoughts and transform materials without question. They create thesis statements surrounding ideas and explain them in a visual format. The art museum next to you is an institutionalized commodity of great humans that have displayed problem solving and innovation at great heights of societal change. They are valued for thinking and perceiving new ways to do things and are recognized to be wise. Artists are empowered by transforming our world for the better and we, as a society, are inspired by their purpose.
But even as artists are reveled for their great transformational minds, in the business world, creativity is also reveled for the originality and innovation it brings to our services and individually, as someone, who is enacting creative thinking, they will find themselves being healed from the process of practicing it.
Creativity is something that we only get better at as we practice it.
There is no better investment you can make today than strengthening your creative skills. Whether that means learning more about the materials you are transforming (be it the HR department, a canvas, or some HTML code) or focusing on the materials you already have and just trying to find better solutions to a concept instead of settling for the first idea that pops into your brain. Creativity invokes experimentation, self-expression, healing, and originality.
And as you continue to practice it, you will notice that creativity only is a natural skill for all humans. Becoming aware of our power to transform, analyze, and innovate strengthens your sense of self, your purpose, and the world around you.
So, get out there and get creating. Tell me what you are working on or how you have tapped into creative thinking today <3
